Southwest Detroit is one of the region's most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods. From its earliest immigrants to Corktown in the 1840s to the present day, southwest Detroit has welcomed generations of families from Ireland, Malta, Guatemala and Mexico, among others.
At Crain's Detroit Homecoming in 2017, Ford Motor Co. announced a big move: by 2022, the automaker would move many of its operations to a 1.2 million square foot campus in Corktown, centered around the iconic Michigan Central train station.
